Sensory Education
John Amos Comenius believed that children learned best with their senses, creating the sensory eduction approach. He published Orbis Pictus in 1657, which is considered the first picture book for children. Comenius believed that children should not just be taught and expected to memorize the names of things. She felt that they only truly learned through seeing and experiencing them. Many schools today still implement the practice of utilizing the senses when teaching, and Maria Montessori's approach was greatly influenced by this practice.
