Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
John Heinrich Pestalozzi was greatly influenced by Rousseau's naturalism approach to education. In 1774, Pestalozzi opened a school he named Neuhof in his home country of Switzerland. His teachings at Neuhof focused on home life, vocational educations and skills, and reading and writing. In a way, based on its concentrations on home and vocational skills, Neuhof can be considered the pioneer of the vocational schools we have today! Pestalozzi was also greatly influenced by Comenius's sensory education, and how it led to a child's natural development. He believed that the best educators were the ones that would "teach children, not subjects."
