Naturalism
Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) is credited for creating the Naturalism approach to education. Like Comenius, Rousseau also believed that children learned at their own pace and rate of development and should not be rushed or forced. Naturalism has greatly influenced education in America. For example, many teachers use things like restaurant menus when teaching reading. This enforces the importance and necessity of learning to read, as it's something the children are familiar with and can relate to. Rousseau believed that the naturalism approach encourages the typical qualities that children possess, including happiness, spontaneity, and curiosity.
